Welcome to the Electronic Press Kit of No Reply.

Our music is kinda like if Sublime made a baby with Dr Dre, and it was raised by Fat Freddy’s Drop

Big Swells: our sophomore single was written about living in Rarotonga (Cook Islands, South Pacific). It uses the small island as an analogy to life in general, knowing that you are protected from the massive waves of the ocean by a reef. Sometimes you venture beyond the reef and need to deal with the choices you’ve made along the way. It will be released on 29 November 2023.

Big Swells is now our second song to be recorded, mixed and mastered by Nate Sowter at Link Flamingo Studios (Sophie Maude, Matty Buxton, Deadbeat, Smurgy, Blindspott). Special thanks goes to our friends featuring on the track:

  • Cook Island Drumming by Tua Meti
  • Conch by Glenn Tuahine
  • Backing Vocals by Matty Buxton

This is another taste of the sound of the summer. Play it at a party. At the beach, At the barbie [BBQ]. At a show.” – Jack from FlashTrax (https://flash-trax.com/2023/11/16/no-reply-big-swells/)

Departure Lounge, our debut single was written in Wellington Airport shortly after the COVID Lockdowns lifted and domestic flights resumed. It sets the scene of a DJ playing a set to a seemingly oblivious crowd, which did not bother him at all- that DJ was in the zone, absorbed in the music. The song encourages the listener to find an outlet that they are truly passionate about, no matter if others vibe it or not. It was released on 13 July 2023 and debuted at #9 on the NZ Hot Singles Charts. Listen above.

Band Bio

Based in the vibrant region of Tauranga Moana (New Zealand), we’re a nine-piece band who likes to play our version of Dub-Reggae/Hip Hop.

Originally we got together to play ska covers for a party, with practices turning into originals that have a new yet familiar vibe. Our live show is perfect for a summer’s evening, with the whole family in tow.

The name No Reply is in reference to our band’s Whats App group, and the fact we can see people have read the message but….

Recent Highlights include opening for MidWave Breaks in their hometown show, headlining Vegan Vibes festival and playing at One Area for Festival One.

No Reply’s music is an infectious blend of catchy melodies and irresistible rhythms that compel listeners to bop their heads along. Influenced by the harmonies of the Beach Boys, the rock vibes of Weezer, and the solid hip hop grooves of the 90’s, the horn lines tip their hats to the Wellington dub and roots scene. They create a sound that is simultaneously familiar and refreshingly unique.” – Sam Cummins (Tauranga Music Critic)
